Normalization of AP EAMCET 2017 Marks

Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (AP EAMCET) 2017 is conducted by JNTU Kakinada. The entrance test is for the students to get the admission in under graduate professional courses in engineering and medical fields. The test is scheduled from 24th April 2017 to 28th April 2017 in the various cities of Andhra Pradesh. AP EAMCET 2017 Results are going to be released on 6th May 2017.

Normalization:

AP EAMCET 2017 is conducted in multiple sessions with each session having different set of question papers with same pattern. But the question papers may vary in difficulty level, so the AP EAMCET 2017 admission committee has finally decided to use the normalization process in order to counter the variations in difficulty levels in the question papers. Normalization is a process in which the candidates are ranked the applicants based on global performance.

Normalization is based on the formula recommended by reputed institutions in India. This process is to ensure the difficulty of the different question paper sets do not affect the ranking of the candidates. This is required step to ensure that the candidates who got difficult paper compared to an easier paper. National level entrance examinations like JEE Main 2017, GATE 2017 etc use this Normalization process. The formula given below is used for normalizing the marks obtained:

GMS +   (Top Average Global - GMS)  X (Marks Obtained of the applicant – SMS)

                              (Top Average Session - SMS)

SMS: (Average + Standard Deviation) of the session in which the applicants belong to.

GMS: (Average + Standard Deviation) of all the candidates across all sessions together

Top Average Session: Average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates in the session in which the candidate belongs to.

Top Average Global: Average marks of the top 0.1% of all the candidates across all sessions together.

The marks of an individual candidate will be calculated by using the weightage of 75% of EAMCET normalized marks and 25% of Inter marks i.e. Group marks. For the candidates for whom there is no qualifying cutoff in AP EAMCET 2017 after normalization goes below zero (negative), the marks is treated as zero and the rank is assigned based on 25% of Intermediate marks weightage. If the tie persists, then AP EAMCET 2017 normalization marks (though negative) will be considered for breaking the tie.

Demonstration with example:

Averages and Standard Deviations in a particular session and averages of top 0.1% candidates of a particular session, Global Average and Standard Deviations of all sessions together, Averages of top 0.1% candidates in all sessions is given in Table 1. Example data of normalized marks is shown in Table 2 to Table 5.
