Assam Engineering College (AEC) was established in 1955 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is the first engineering college in northeastern India and a top technical institute in the nation overall. Situated in the Guwahati city's Jalukbari area, it is the preeminent technical institution of Northeastern India.
AEC is affiliated with Guwahati University, which was founded in 1948 and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given it approval for Civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, computer science and engineering, electronics and telecommunication, instrumentation, and industrial and production engineering are among the fields in which Bachelor of Engineering (BE) courses are offered. It also offers Masters of Engineering/ Technology (M.E/ M.Tech) courses in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Master in Computer Application (MCA) course.

Library- The establishment of the Assam Engineering College Library coincided with the college's 1955 foundation. The Reading Room is well-stocked, with many daily, weeklies, periodicals, and journals covering a wide range of topics available for subscription. In addition to housing an enormous collection of literature on science, engineering, business, and the humanities.
Computer Centre- Assam Engineering College built the Central Computing Centre (CCC) as a central facility to serve the needs of academic departments and other institute sections.
Health Centre- The well-appointed AEC Hospital has a resident physician and staff. It is fully operational. Every institute member has a right to use the hospital's basic medical facilities. For common illnesses, it offers both indoor and outdoor medical facilities.
Bank- Within the Institute's premises, a fully computerized branch of the State Bank of India operates to assist all financial activities.
Post Office- On campus, an AEC maintains a post office for the convenience of the students. For money orders, postal orders, postage, and other things, it has provisions.
Canteen- The large, recently built college canteen was created to provide AECians with healthy, wholesome cuisine.
Hostel- At the moment, there is one residential complex for girls and seven for boys. All eight of the campus's hostels have comfortable, well-ventilated rooms that are suitable for single, or double/multi-sharing basis.
