30-day delay for academics in Telangana

The ongoing general strike in support of Telangana has forced professional colleges to extend the academic year by a month in the Telangana region.Osmania University has also extended its postgraduate semester by two weeks to make up for the loss of working days on account of the strike.The academic year should have ended in the second week of April 2012, but has now been extended to the second week of May.
Students were unable to attend college for a month because buses were not running, and this meant they could not fulfil the minimum attendance norm of 75 per cent attendance.
Unless the academic calendar is extended by a month, students in the Telangana region will not be able to meet the attendance requirement and sit for their exams.T-men protest Kodandaram move T-activists staged a dharna in front of TJAC convener Kodandaram's house protesting the withdrawal of the Sakala Janula Samme in certain departments. They were detained by the police Osmania University will extend postgraduate semester by two weeks to make up for loss of working days due to T-stir. “We will decide on extending the academic calendar for postgraduate students of Osmania University later. We will conduct the pending exams for PG students from October 29. We will review the situation in January and take a final decision,“ said Prof.Satyanarayana, VC of Osmania University.
The state government has also revised the schedule for the quarterly exams for schools in the T-region. The exams will be held from October 28 to November 3. Also, Sankranti vacation for schools were cut short to three days.
