University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 23 fake universities on its website to save the students from taking admission in these fake universities and colleges present in India.
Country’s capital Delhi tops in the list with 66 colleges which offer Engineering and other technical courses without proper accreditation. In total there are 279 such technical institutes identified in the country.
UGC reported that seven of the 23 fake universities are present in National Capital Delhi. UGC and AICTE released the list of fake institutes on their websites to warn the students ahead of new academic session which is going to starts from next month. A senior official stated that the list of unapproved and unregulated technical institutions is going to concerned state authorities for taking appropriate action against them.
Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra states also have no less number of fake universities.
Measures taken by AICTE:
AICTE issued notices to the colleges for not taking its approval and public notices have been published in newspapers cautioning the students not to take admission in such unapproved institutions. Also, the list of fake universities and fake technical institutes are available on the UGC website www.ugc.ac.in and AICTE website www.aicte-india.org.
