Rajiv Vidya Mission uploads data of schools under GMAPS

Posted On: 15-3-2011
ADILABAD: In a vast district like Adilabad, distances have invariably undermined development even in the field of education.
By charts all aspects related with individual schools under the Geographical Mapping (GMAPS) programme, the Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) has sought to negate this trend.

“All the information that is necessary to inject development in any given school is just the click of a mouse away. Each and every school can now be accessed on our website for details of their physical and educational attributes,” reveals RVM Adilabad Project Officer S. Vishwanath Rao as he explains the salient features of GMAPS.

The RVM in Andhra Pradesh is the only unit in the country so far to have uploaded data and visuals related to schools on its website http://gmapsrvm.ap.nic.in.

The information can be accessed in eight regional languages and even by ‘guest' users.

“The information and photographs were collected as per the format under the District Information on School Education (DISE). It contains data on enrolment of students between classes 1 and 8 and photos of facilities like building, classrooms, kitchens, toilets, compound wall and water sources in schools from habitation level onwards,” says Mr. Vishwanath Rao as he goes into the details of GMAPS.

Besides cross checking the information supplied by head masters of schools, trained RVM officials have also compiled geographical coordinates of individual schools. Information related to the latter part however, has not been displayed on the website.

A ‘visit' to the school report section of a school on the website divulges important facts related to the educational side of that school.

One can know the composition of students and teachers in the school from every possible angle which can be useful to researchers.

The RVM presented the GMAPS to a select audience comprising of Collector and RVM District Chairman P. Venkateswarlu, District level Officers and members teachers unions and the media in Adilabad at the collectorate conference hall on Monday. The power point presentation was aimed at familiarisation of the important programme among these interest sections.
