As soon as India became Independent, a different kind of revolution began to spread across the country. The goal of this revolution was to make India a progressive nation. Many philanthropists and socially-oriented organizations believed that only education would take India forward. BLDEA was at the forefront of this revolution in North Karnataka, especially the Mumbai-Karnataka region. In the undivided Bijapur, the historic town of Jamkhandi did not have any higher educational institution in the 1950s. Jamkhandi had a rich legacy. It was the capital of Jamkhandi state, one of the Maratha princely states and ruled by the Patwardhan dynasty.

Started with 200 students, the college has grown today into a massive educational institution with a student strength of more than five thousand. Its campus is spread over an area of around 54 acres. It imparts education in Arts, Science, Commerce, Business Administration and Computer Science.
