About St. Philomenas College:
Established on October 9, 1946, St. Philomena’s College is the result of a Bishop’s vision and a Maharaja’s generosity. Rt. Rev. Dr. Rene Feuga, the first Bishop of Mysore, vacated his mansion to host the college’s first classes, supported by the benevolent Wodeyars, the Royal Family of Mysore.
The College was inaugurated by His Highness Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, marking a rare and prestigious beginning. It became the first private First Grade College in Mysore and the first private Degree Science College in the region, affiliated with the University of Mysore.
The first batch of 380 students stepped into history, laying the foundation for generations of Philomenites. The College’s motto, given by His Holiness, the Pope, is drawn from the Latin phrase:
“Caritas vestra magis ac magis abundet in scientia”
