Sri Subramaniaswamy Government Arts College started functioning in the year 1970 to meet the great demand in the locality for an institution known for excellence in higher education. The college is located at Tiruttani, one of the six sacred abodes of Lord Muruga. The college shifted its campus from a private construction to the newly built edifice located on the Chennai-Tiruttani highway in the year 1976. University of Madras gave approval for the undergraduate courses of History (1977), Economics (1978), English Literature (1979), Mathematics (1981), Commerce (1982), Physics (1998) and Computer Science (1998). In the year 2013-14 many courses were started like Undergraduate courses of B.A (Tamil), B.Com (Corp. Secretaryship), BCA , BBA ) and BCom (General) and the Post Graduate courses of M.A (Economics), M.A (Tamil), M.A (English), MSc(Computer Science), M.Com (Coporate Secretaryship), M.Com (General), MSc (Mathematics) and MSc (Physics) and the Research Programs-MPhil (History, Economics and Computer science) and PhD in Economics and History.
