The Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) has designated the Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University as an Institution of National Importance through an Act of Parliament that was notified on March 5, 2014. This second Central Agricultural University in India was founded and is named after the legendary warrior queen of Jhansi, the Late Rani Lakshmi Bai, who gave her life in defence of freedom.
