Situated in Varanasi, the holy city, Banaras Hindu University is a globally renowned centre of study. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the renowned nationalist leader, established this imaginative and inventive institution in 1916 in close collaboration with notable individuals such as Dr Annie Besant, who saw it as the institution of India. The Parliamentary Act known as the B.H.U. Act 1915 created Banaras Hindu University.
BHU offers a wide range of courses related to all areas of humanities, social science, technology, medicine, science, fine arts, and performing arts. It is comprised of 6 Institutes, 14 Faculties, 144 Departments, 4 Inter-Discplinary Centers, a constituent college for women, and 3 Constituent Schools. There are six centers for advanced studies, ten departments under the Special Assistance Program, and numerous other specialized Research Centers.
About 1700 teachers, approximately 8000 non-teaching staff members, and about 15,000 students from different walks of life, castes, religions, and races belong to the University family. Many international students come to study here, including those from the United States of America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and other regions.

Banaras Hindu University provides state-of-the-art infrastructure and a wide range of facilities to its students. Some of the key infrastructure facilities and amenities available at the university include:
Computer Centre: The University community can access computer facilities through the Computer Center, which also assists researchers in getting their data examined. It expands the university's Internet capabilities, gives students access to email and the World Wide Web, and gives science and technology students lab space.
Hostel: BHU offers separate accommodations for boys and girls in its hostels. In terms of hostel accommodations, there are 41 options for boys and 21 options for girls. Furthermore, there is a different hostel specifically for international students. Basic amenities including TVs, common areas, kitchens, laundry facilities, leisure rooms, security, and surveillance systems are provided in every hostel at BHU.
Sports Complex: The university offers its students a number of spaces for recreational and sporting events. The huge campus of the university is home to numerous sports facilities, including badminton, basketball, squash, cricket, football, swimming pool, tennis, table tennis, mountaineering, and flying clubs. The University offers experienced instructors and practice areas so that students can compete in different competitions.
Labs: In accordance with the needs of their courses, the university also offers a number of lab facilities for the students to use for experiments. Among the several labs are those for chemistry, physics, biotechnology, mechanical, zoology, computer, CAD/CAM, and other subjects.
Health Care: All BHU employees and students have access to 24-hour health care services. The University's SS Hospital is equipped with all the tools and technology needed to provide care. Students, scholars, and employees are eligible for certain medical facilities at no cost or at a concessional rate.
