Government Medical College, Gadchiroli was established in 2024 by the Government of Maharashtra under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER). The college is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Located in the eastern part of Maharashtra, Gadchiroli is a tribal-dominated and forest-rich district known for its remote terrain and limited access to healthcare facilities. The medical college is situated at the Mul Road Complex in Gadchiroli town, providing an accessible hub for both medical education and healthcare services.
The establishment of this institution addresses a critical need in the region, where healthcare infrastructure has historically lagged behind due to its rural and difficult terrain. The college was founded with the vision of improving medical education and strengthening healthcare delivery in tribal and underserved areas. It offers a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course with an annual intake capacity of 100 students, selected through the NEET-UG examination as per NMC norms.
The government has allocated 71 acres of land for the construction of a new medical college and hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art operation theatres, modern infrastructure, and all the latest facilities. By training a new generation of doctors within the district, GMC Gadchiroli aims to create a sustainable healthcare workforce that understands the local culture, challenges, and healthcare needs. The institution is committed to producing skilled, compassionate, and socially responsible medical professionals who are equipped to serve in rural and tribal settings. In addition to clinical training, the college emphasizes public health, community outreach, and rural medicine—key pillars for addressing the district's unique health challenges.
With its modern infrastructure, academic excellence, and dedication to community service, Government Medical College, Gadchiroli stands as a beacon of hope and progress for the people of this region.
