About Govt. College for Women Parade :

Established in 1944 at the instance of Maharani Tara Devi, Government College for Women (Autonomous), Parade Ground, Jammu, stands as a historic pillar of female education in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Originally founded as Maharani Mahila College, it was later taken over by the state government in 1953 and has since evolved into a premier autonomous institution affiliated with the University of Jammu. Spanning a 4.6-acre campus in the heart of Jammu city, the college is recognized by the UGC as a "College with Potential for Excellence" and currently holds a B+ Grade from NAAC (3rd cycle). It was the first women’s college in the province to receive autonomy, allowing it to pioneer innovative academic frameworks such as the recently launched "Design Your Degree" (DYD) program. This four-year interdisciplinary honors course, aligned with NEP 2020, empowers students to customize their learning path by selecting majors and minors across diverse streams like Biotechnology, Computer Applications, and Music, alongside traditional Arts, Science, and Commerce disciplines.

The college’s infrastructure is a blend of heritage and modernity, housing approximately 5,500 students and a dedicated faculty of nearly 100 educators. Academic resources are robust, headlined by an automated central library containing over 65,000 volumes and specialized laboratories for subjects ranging from Electronics and Psychology to Functional English. Beyond the classroom, GCW Parade Ground fosters a holistic environment through its active NCC and NSS wings, a modern nine-station gymnasium, and a secure on-campus hostel for outstation students. The institution is also a focal point for financial inclusivity, facilitating numerous state and central scholarships like the Post-Matric and Pahari-speaking student schemes, which ensure that quality higher education remains accessible to all economic segments. As a leader in implementing the National Education Policy, the college continues to bridge the gap between traditional scholarship and modern employability, maintaining its legacy as a transformative force for young women in the Union Territory.
