University Institute of Technology (UIT), Alappuzha Regional Centre, a higher education Institution, directly managed by Kerala University has been started its voyage of unmatched professionalism and educational excellence with undisputed institutional quality since 25th September 1995. Shri. G Sudhakaran, Hon’ble Minister of Public Works Department and Registration, Govt. of Kerala, who was the syndicate member of Kerala University during 1995 commenced the inauguration of this Regional Centre as per the decision taken by the syndicate of University of Kerala in 1995 along with other UIT Centres of Thiruvananthapuram, Neyyattinkara, Kollam and Adoor.
UIT, Alappuzha was first started in the premises of Pazhaveedu H.S.S Thiruvampady in a building which was received as royalty. In the beginning, the college has a sanctioned intake of 114 students- 67in BBA and 47 in B.Sc Computer Science along with 10 Teaching and 5 Non-teaching staff. The founder Principal of the College was Sri. Jose K Thayyil (1995-99) followed by Prof. A Rajappan Nair(1999-2009), Dr. Nanadakumar Damodara Prasad (2009-2013), Prof. John M George (2013-18),Dr.D Radhakrishana Pillai(2018-21). Dr.Anil Kumar T R is currently leading the way of successful cruise of the college.
The Staff and Students of UIT, Alappzuha is extremely thankful to Late Prof. A Rajappan Nair, the former Principal who has done a marvelous effort in enhancing the infrastructural development of the college. During 1997 the college was shifted from Thiruvampady HSS to own building which is situated in Mohammadan’s School campus. Subsequently a new building block was constructed with the financial assistance of Kerala University as well as the financial support of the PTA of the college.
BCom with Computer Application was started during 2000-01 academic year with an intake of 50 students. In 2001, the college expanded its territory with the completion of a new building block and was inaugurated by the then MP Shri. V M Sudheeran. Subsequently MSc Computer Science programme was started during the academic year 2005. The college was selected by Kerala University as a venue for conducting the Inter University Youth Festival and the Kerala University Youth Festival in 2015.
