It is located on the southern bank of the Ganga River in Bhagalpur, Bihar, and is mentored by the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG).

IIIT Bhagalpur has been approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). It has also gained 28^th rank by India Today in 2023.
