It was established in 2018 under the sponsorship of the Sri Sai Trust by K.V. Ramani (an Indian entrepreneur who donated over 85% of his wealth to the trust to promote the university).

The fee structure for each program is different. For B. Sc and B.A. courses, the fees are INR 6,00,000 per annum. The fees for the B. Tech course are INR 4,00,000 per annum. Apart from the program fees, there is also a residence fee for students who opt for SAIU Residence.
