On August 8, 1955, the then-visionaries of western Assam founded a college in the historic town of Goalpara on the south bank of Brahmaputra inanapproximately 35.28-acre expanse of lush green land with the noble intention of catering the requirements of higher education of the aspiring youths of the peripheral area. Under the leadership of freedom fighter, first MLA of Goalpara Khagendranath Nath and eminent educationist Wazuddin Ahmed theArtsstreamflourished rapidly and eventually, in 1965, the Science stream was introduced.During the journey the college produced a galaxy of prolific alumni who have been contributing in different parts of the world.In 2015, the much-awaited Commerce stream was added to the oldest college of the region. Withthree streams having both honours and regular courses the college has been attracting thousands of students from various parts of the state including Meghalaya and West Bengal.
