The Government Vidarbha Institute of Science and Humanities is the premier education institute in the Vidarbha region of the Maharashtra state, for imparting quality education and innovative research. Founded in 1923, it is one of the oldest academic institutions in the country. Recently, the institute has been awarded Autonomy by the UGC. This is honour to the institute for constant collaborative efforts for the outstanding results. Since the inception, hundred years ago, it has succeeded in creating a niche in the field of higher education. The institute has achieved many milestones in its journey of the Hundred years. It keeps the legacy of Knowledge and Excellence.It is a multidisciplinary institute which imparts education from 11th standard to Ph.D program. The institute offers 21 subjects at undergraduate level and 19 subjects at postgraduate level. The institute is a Research Centre for Ph.D. in 20 subjects. The teachers are recruited through the Maharashtra public service commission. The institute has been awarded the prestigious ‘A’ grade by NAAC with CGPA 3.51.For last ten decades, the institute has shaped the students to become stalwarts in politics, litterateur, teaching, science, law, medicine, economics, arts and culture, etc. We hone thinking faculty of the students to bring revolutionary and radical changes in various fields of life. We rely on blending of theoretical and practical teaching and learning. From the academic year 2021-22, we are offering CBCS pattern at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The new syllabi of the academic programs are set to boost physical, mental, social, emotional and intellectual development of the students. This will be a student-centric approach wherein they will have the freedom to choose the subjects to explore their insatiable curiosity for knowledge.The contribution of the institute has been well reflected in the writings and expressions of the several writers. Vishram Bedekar, in his autobiography ‘Ek Zaad Don Pakshi’ (One Tree Two Birds), has immortalized the institute (VMV) by narrating his college day experiences. Several novelist, poets and eminent personalities including Suresh Bhat, Ram Shewalkar, Madhukar Keche, Vitthal Wagh, Sudhakarrao Naik (Former Chief Minister, Maharashtra), Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, who was instrumental in developing supercomputer PARAM, have created inerasable memories of the institute in their works. It is really a proud to see the students of institute to top the merit list of the university every year with the rank as well as number. Quality education is our trademark.The institute is spread majestically in 168 acres and have quality infrastructure. It has spacious classrooms and laboratories as per the UGC norms. The Institute has a Career Counseling Cell under the auspice of which many placement and career guidance drives are organized. It has NCC and NSS with 2 units each. The institute has its own firing range for the cadets of NCC. It has a very big sports complex with facilities for each game, including a cricket pavilion. The updating of the sports facility is under work for which Rs.10 crore are allotted.Each department has its own building. The serene, pollution free, congenial ambience of the institute is ideal for the pursuit of higher education and research. We have botanical garden, administrative block, yoga bhavan, canteen and parking facility. There are three auditoriums with the capacity of 1000 ,300 and 150 respectively, a separate Majlis hall for the musical performances. The premises accommodate other useful establishments including the Pre – IAS academy, The Post Office, Water Supply Office and the Police Station. The institute campus is replete with the lush green vegetation. The campus is Oxygen rich thereby attracting the people in the vicinity for morning and evening walks.
