The Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhopal (IIIT Bhopal) was founded on a not-for-profit public-private partnership (N-PPP) basis by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI). The Indian Institute of Information Technology University Act of 2017 allowed for the establishment of an Institute of National Importance (INI). At the moment, IIIT Bhopal is temporarily operated on the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal campus. However, an area of land in Bhopal of about 60 acres has been selected for the permanent site of the institute.

 It is a joint venture of the MoE, the Government of India, the Government of Madhya Pradesh, and Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) Bhopal (M.P). B.Tech programs in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT), and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) are available at IIIT Bhopal. Additionally, M.Tech and MCA programs are also offered.

All of the essential facilities that students want are provided by hostels, including a gym, a vegetarian restaurant, large, open spaces, hot water in the winter, etc.

Sports- Physical education and sports are vital components of a young student's life. In light of this, the sports facilities at IIIT Bhopal provide both indoor and outdoor games (carom, chess, kabaddi courts) as well as sports like football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and cricket. Sporlumina, IIIT Bhopal's inaugural sports festival, was recently organized.
