Transformed from a District hospital to a fledgling medical college in 2011, Malda Medical College now stands tall as a prestigious institution in the northern region of West Bengal. With its inception in 2011, Malda Medical College obtained the recognition of MCI in 2016 for hundred UG (MBBS) students. Thus began the journey that has witnessed several milestones being achieved one after another. Intake increased to 125 in 2019. Starting of post-graduation course in Paediatrics (MD) after obtaining LOP from MCI is another feat achieved in 2020. Needless to say , Malda Medical College has a student centredenvironment with a team of dedicated teachers at the helm. We cater to the students’ professional development in consonance with the spirit of competency based medical education.As envisaged by MCI, our institution is committed to produce competent medical graduates and postgraduates who would be technically of global standard yet oriented to the health needs of Indian society. Malda MC has been sensitive to the changing needs of medical education given the technology driven domain of higher learning. We have adopted the new paradigm primarily with the core idea of producing the Indian medical Graduate.As a tertiary level health care facility in the region, Malda Medical College caters to the need of a large population of the district and adjacent area. We are committed to provide quality health care services to safeguard the interest of the people.Equipped with all the broad speciality departments, state of the art facilities at our CCU, SNCU, PICU, Dialysis Unit, advanced investigations like MRI, CT , digital X ray and excellent supporting staff we are able to meet the challenges of clinical care. Backed up by the specialized laboratory services of Pathology, Biochemistry and Microbiology we are able to strengthen our diagnostic and therapeutic care to the level comparable with any of the premier institutes.
Apart from health care delivery, Malda Medical College is the only referral centre for medico legal works in the district. Efficient medico-legal services are provided to aid the department of Home and help in the delivery of justice.Of late the specialized and expertise of the VRDL,a medical college level centre for diagnosis and research on viral diseases, of the department of Microbiology has been successfully harnessed in testing for COVID 19 by RTPCR.Besides,the VRDL has been helping in capacity building for HR by regular hands -on -training and workshops on RTPCR.I thankfully acknowledge the contribution of my predecessors who laid the foundation of development. Since joining office in early2019, it has been easier for me to carry on with the on-goingwork. I thank the former principals who have painstakingly worked to develop the institute by their continued efforts.I consider myself privileged to head an institute that is fast growing and rapidly imbibing the newer ideas and paradigm of medical education and health care.
