It was in July 1920 that the International Missionary Council suggested at its meeting in Williamstown Massachusetts that a training college be established for graduate teachers of North Tamil and Telugu areas of erstwhile Madras province. The scheme for a training college for men graduates in the premises of the former Wesley College, Royapettah was suggested by the Lindsay Commission on Christian Higher Education in India in the year 1931. On the basis of this eventful recommendation, the Meston Training College was founded in the name of Rev.Dr.William Meston, a distinguished Principal of Madras Christian College with the initial support of Methodist Missions Society, Council for World Mission, Church Missionary Society, United Society for the propagation of the Gospel. Subsequently, various philanthropic unions and churches have nurtured it.
The Founder Principal Rev.T.R. Foulger, a methodist Missionary spared no pains to upgrade the college into a postgraduate institution by starting the M.Ed. course in 1943 in co-operation with various institutions in the city.

B.Ed	Teaching	-	To be eligible for a B.Ed. degree, you generally need a Bachelor's or Master's degree with at least 50% marks, or a Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology with 55% marks in Science and Mathematics. Some colleges also require specific subject knowledge from your Bachelor's degree, and a minimum age of 19 or 21 years may apply, along with a completed 10+2 or equivalent qualification.
M.Ed	Teaching	-	Applicants who holds B.Ed., Degree of the TNTEU or an equivalent Degree in education or teaching of other Universities recognized by the TNTEU as equivalent there to are eligible for the M.Ed Degree.
M.Phil	Teaching	-	A Candidate who has qualified for the Masters Degree in Education under the regulation of the TNTEU or the other University recognized by the TNTEU may register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil). The rules and regulations for registering for M.Phil., are given in the regulations of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.
Ph.D	Teaching	-	To be eligible for a PhD, you typically need a relevant postgraduate degree with a minimum score (often 55%), though some programs may accept a strong 4-year undergraduate degree. You'll likely need to pass a university-specific or national entrance exam like UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, or GATE, or have a qualifying score like JRF. Some universities may waive the entrance exam for candidates with certain qualifications or research experience.	GATE, UGC NET
