The Hospital was commenced at Olassery, Palakkad in 1997 by Guru himself catering to the needs of nearly 60 villages surrounding. It is situated adjacent to Santhigiri Palakkad Branch Ashram and on the banks of Bharatapuzha’s tributary Sokanashini Puzha (a river that cures sorrows) in the midst of paddy fields and palmtreesin full peace and tranquility.The college is established in the year 2002. It aims at bringing up a group of doctors of profound scholarship having deep basis of Ayurveda with scientific knowledge in accordance with Ayurvedic fundamentals with extensive practical training and above all possessing the great principles of Nava Arogya Dharma Siddhantham envisioned by Guru.Ayurveda, the science of life, is one of the Indian Medical Systems. The word Ayurveda is composed of two Sanskrit terms viz. ayu meaning life and veda meaning the knowledge and taken together it means the science of life. Ayurveda thus essentially a science which advocates the means to protect one’s health as well as to cure the diseases.
Ayurveda believes that every individual is a unique phenomenon. The individual is invisible from the cosmos. Whatever is there in macrocosm the same thing exists in the microcosm. Every individual is a manifestation of cosmic consciousness.
The vibration of pure consciousness produces the soundless sound Om. From this sound the five basic elements are produced viz. Prithvi,Jala,Agni, Vayu and Akasha.These basic elements are manifested into Tridosha (three biological organizations) known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Normalcy of tridosha leads to health and their disturbed status causes diseases. Equally important are the dhatu(body tissue), Mala( metabolic waste), agni( digestive fire), Atma(soul), Indriya( sensory faculty) and manas( mind).
Diagnosis and treatment in Ayurveda is based on very strong principles like Karya karana Principle, Samanya Vishesha Principle etc. The principles are time tested and can therefore be applied even to the new generation diseases. Each patient is an unique and he is examined by methods like Trividha Pareeksha, Dashavidha Pareeksha etc. Treatment modalities include Shadhana( Purification), Shamana( Pacification) apart from Nidana Parivarjana( avoiding cause) and Pathya –Apathya vivechana( Planning the diet and other regimen).
