Shri Pancham Khemraj Mahavidyalaya, Sawantwadi was established on 20 June 1961. The collage is affiliated to University of Mumbai and is run by Sindhudurg Zilla Shikshan Prasarak Mandal Sawantwadi. The college is named after Shri Pancham Khemraj alias Shrimant Bapusaheb Maharaj (K.C.S.I.) father of Founder President Late. Rajesaheb His Highness Rajabahaddur Shrimant Shivramraje Bhonsle founder President Late Shri Shivramraje Bhonsle who was a member of Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra for 25 years. He was the Chairman of Maharashtra Handicraft Board and Ex-Serviceman Association. Our former chairman Her Highness Shrimant Rajmata Shrimant Satyashiladevi Bhonsle was very much interested in art and crafts, Her Highness Shrimant Satyashiladevi Bhonsle has given exemplary big contribution in the revival of the dying art of Ganjifa and Lacquerware. The college started its educational activities on the opening day with the 100 students on roll from P. D. Arts and P. D. Science classes. Today collage is proud to have full-fledged Arts, Science and Commerce College with Junior and Senior wings, the students strength mounting to 2500. Founder President Rajesaheb Shrimant Shivramraje Bhonsle and Shrimant Satvshiladevi Bhonsle donated 5.75 acres of land with ‘Satyavilas Palace’ and adjacent buildings. He also deposited Rupees 75,000/- as the nucleus of the funds as refundable deposit without interest. The contribution of the Royal Family of Sawantwadi Sansthan is so immensely high that none can think of the college without the reference of Royal family. It is also a rare example of Royal family, which contributed to education for generations together.
