As a centre of excellence for information technology (IT) and related fields, the Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999. The Indian government granted the institute the status of "Deemed University" in 2000. By an Act of Parliament, the Indian government designated it as an "Institute of National Importance" in 2014. The exquisite 100-acre campus in Deoghat, Jhalwa, was meticulously designed using the Penrose Geometry pattern. Beautiful landscaping completes the picture, creating a calming atmosphere that is also stimulating.

The NIRF placed the institute 89th in the Engineering category in 2023. The Departments of Technology and Management at IIIT Allahabad offer undergraduate and graduate degrees.
