Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is a multidisciplinary research institute situated in Jakkur, a locality north of Bangalore, India. It is relatively young yet well-known around the Globe.

JNC ASR, Bengaluru is a Research Institute and hence the emphasis is on Research Programmes. So, all research programs offered by JNC ASR, Bengaluru are popular.

JNCASR Integrated Ph.D. Programmes

• Physical Sciences (specialization in Materials) discipline is offered jointly by CPMU and TSU – Candidates with a minimum of 55% marks at bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science/Engineering with an aptitude for advanced Physics Education and Materials Research. For admission, candidates shall be evaluated on past academic records and/or scores in National Level Tests.

• Chemical Science discipline offered by NCU – Students with a minimum of 55% marks at bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as a major and Mathematics as a subject at least up to 12^th (10+2) and should have qualified in JAM are eligible to apply.

• Biological Sciences discipline offered jointly by MBGU and NSU- Students with a minimum of 55% marks Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Physical, Chemical or Biological Science (including biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, Veterinary Sciences and Agriculture Sciences) or B.E/B. Tech or equivalent degree.

Candidates shall be selected for Interviews for admission into Integrated Ph.D. Physical Science and Integrated Ph.D. Chemical Science Programmes based on the score obtained in Joint Admission Test (JAM) for the Master’s Programme.  For Ph.D. in Biological Science Programme will be shortlisted based on Online examination (MCQs) and will be invited to appear for Personal Interview.  The Final selection to the Integrated Ph.D. Programmes shall be based on the performance in the Personal Interview.

JNCASR Master’s Programme in Chemistry: Master of Science (M.Sc) in Chemistry (2 years)

Applicants have a minimum of 55% marks in the UG programme in any branch of Science with Chemistry as a major subject.  Further, applicants must be qualified the JAM (Joint Admissions Test for Masters.

Candidates who are qualified in JAM shall be invited for an interview directly.  The final selection shall be based on the performance of the Candidates in the Personal Interview (PI).

JNCASR Postgraduate Diploma in Materials science (PGDMS) Programmes

This is a one-year with two semesters Programme intended for Candidates who have completed their Postgraduate Degree in Science (M.Sc).  Teachers from Colleges and Universities with M.Sc., degree as the basic qualification also eligible to apply.

The applications received before the stipulated date shall be scrutinized by the Committee appointed for this purpose and eligible/meritorious candidates will be shortlisted for an interview.  Candidates will be selected based on the final interview.

• The Campus of JNCASR, located in Jakkur, Bangalore spread in 27.35 acres provides a peaceful environment for Research Scholars to devote their time for experimental/theoretical work in a serene atmosphere.

• The Campus has almost complete infrastructure of the Centre including the Research Units, in addition to separate Buildings for Administration, Academic, Outreach, Dining Hall, a Health Centre, Day-care etc.

• Residences for students and staff members are also part of JNCASR, Bengaluru campus, including limited spaces for parking.

A. Yes, candidates admitted to various research programmes are eligible for grant of Scholarships in accordance with the CSIR/UGC Norms. At present, Junior Research Fellowship (Ph.D) of Rs.25,000/- per month and Senior Research Fellows in Science (Next three years) get Rs.28,000/0 per month.

Q. What are the prospects of a student after completing Ph.D.?

A. Students get suitable placements in R&D Departments and Establishments, Teaching jobs I India Universities and post-doctoral research in US and Western Europe or placements in Big Corporates.

A. Personal Interview is conducted by a team of Faculty Members of 4-5 in number to test the skills of the candidate to match with grade/marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the suitability to the Programme applied for. Candidates shall not be asked questions on topics that they are not familiar.  The interview will be conducted in English or any other Indian Language.

Q. Does JNCASR provide transport facility?

A. JNCASR runs buses to the IISc campus daily. On weekdays, these buses are runs for every 1.5 hours.

A. Yes, there are more than 250 rooms in Hostels at Jakkur Campus with separate floors for men and women, with in-house mess.
