Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) ensures financial support for almost all its admitted postgraduate students and research scholars. Because it is an autonomous research institute funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, scholars either receive national research fellowships or institute-funded stipends throughout their academic programs.
Doctoral (Ph.D.) & M.S. (Research) Fellowships
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Ph.D. scholars entering with national qualifications receive a stipend of Rs.37,000 per month for the first two years.
Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): Upon successful assessment and upgrade after two years, the monthly stipend increases to Rs.42,000 per month for the remaining tenure.
Funding Agencies: Fellowships are disbursed through CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, JEST, or DST-INSPIRE schemes.
Institutional Fellowships: Admitted Ph.D. and M.S. scholars who do not hold external national fellowships are provided equivalent monthly stipends directly funded by JNCASR.
Integrated Ph.D. & Master's Stipends
Integrated Ph.D. Students: Scholars receive a base monthly stipend starting at ?8,000 to ?10,000 per month during the initial coursework phase. Upon qualifying for Ph.D. candidacy, the stipend upgrades to standard JRF/SRF rates (?37,000 – ?42,000/month).
M.Sc. / M.S. Students: Select students in Master’s programs receive merit-cum-means assistance or institutional stipends subject to academic performance and department guidelines.
Special Fellowships and Outreach Grants
Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP): Flagship program granting selected undergraduate and master's trainees a fellowship of ?10,000 per month for two months, along with travel allowances.
North-East Summer Research Fellowship (NE-SRF): Targeted fellowship offering financial assistance and research placement for students domiciled in North-Eastern Indian states.
