Formerly known as the Central Institute of English (CIE), the English and Foreign Languages University of Hyderabad was established in 1958. EFLU, which was renamed the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) in 1972, was founded with the mission of providing high-quality training for teachers in English, while also introducing foreign languages like Arabic, French, German, Japanese, and so on. English and Foreign Languages University is accredited with a "A" grade from the NAAC. Arts undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programs are available at EFLU. The NTA-conducted CUET UG exam is the basis for admission to UG programs.
By virtue of an Act of Parliament passed in 2006–2007, CIEFL was designated as a central university and changed its name to The English and Foreign Languages University. As the sole institution of its kind in South Asia, it is committed to teaching English as well as ten foreign languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Persian). In the fields of teacher education, literature, linguistics, interdisciplinary studies, and cultural studies, it has been specifically designed to carry out cutting-edge research and provide training. EFL University currently consists of 26 departments and 7 schools.

The candidate must have earned a minimum average of 50% for General/OBC and 45% for SC/ST in their senior secondary school diploma or an equivalent exam.
M.A (Computational Lingusitics)
The candidate should have earned at least a 55% marks in linguistics and finished their degree in any field. In addition to studying any other language, he or she ought to have earned at least 15 credits in computer science, linguistics, engineering and technology, computer applications, mathematics, and physics. Health Centre- The medical needs of the university community are met by the University Health Centre, which is run by a medical officer, medical consultants, a physiotherapist, a homoeopathic physician, and paramedical personnel. The Health Center is open from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. For treatment and consultation, patients can walk right in. Every student is protected by the health insurance program. There is always ambulance service available. If necessary, empanelled hospitals are referred to students, staff members, and their dependents.
Counseling Centre- The University Counseling Center's goal is to improve students' overall health and well-being by offering extensive services relating to mental health and substance abuse. In order to help students, the Counseling Center offers crisis assistance, helps with problem solving, improves coping mechanisms, fosters personal development, and supports academic achievement.
Experienced clinicians are offering these services and are available to help pupils. The entire student body at EFL University is welcome to use the counseling center.
Guest house- For a comfortable stay on campus, visiting faculty, parents, and guardians are cordially invited to the university's Guest House.
