The Walchand College of Engineering is located in Vishrambag, Sangli, halfway between the cities of Sangli and Miraj. On the southern side of Sangli, Miraj Road, the WCE campus occupies approximately ninety acres of land. The college had a modest start as New Engineering College in 1947. The college was renamed Walchand College of Engineering in 1955 as a result of the new arrangements and the Rehabilitation and Development Program, which was primarily supported by the government and the Seth Walchand Hirachand Memorial Trust. Walchand College of Engineering became autonomous in 2007.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has granted the institute approval. WCW is affiliated with Kolhapur's Shivaji University. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has granted it accreditation. The college offers engineering UG and PG programs.
