NEET UG 2024: Mastering Mechanics to ace medical entrance test

NEET UG 2024 exam will be held on May 5. Application to NEET UG 2024 will likely start in January.
NEET UG, the only exam to shortlist students for medical and allied courses in medicine in India, is held annually. NEET UG in 2024 will be held on May 5. NEET UG question paper will have questions in physics, chemistry and biology. Physics plays an important role in scoring above cut-off marks and in fact in securing a good rank.
Physics starts with mechanics. Historically, mechanics was among the first of the exact sciences to be developed because of its mathematical discipline. Mechanics is a science concerned with the motion of the bodies under the action of forces with a special case in inclusion in which a body remains at rest.
Mechanics is divided into three branches:
describes the possible motion of a body
2. Statics: This deals with forces acting on and in a body at rest
3. Kinetics: This tries to explain or predict the motion in a given situation
Here are a few guidelines to provide an intense approach to solving problems of mechanics in NEET UG 2024.
(a) We should be strong enough in our basic mathematical skills i.e.
• Understanding graphs and their interpretation.
• Understanding Geo Metrical Mathematics.
• Understanding of differential & integral calculus & their applications.
Remember, you need not be a mathematician to understand physics but with good basic mathematical skills, journey of understanding physics will be smooth.
(b) We deal with several vector quantities like velocity, acceleration, momentum force, etc. so knowing about vectors, their representation, their addition, subtraction and multiplication is a must.
If you want to master basic maths and vector that will not consume much of your time but if you are good at this part, solving problems in entire physics is going to be easy for you.
(c) Now when we start with kinematics, in general we have a set of equations relating many variables and a lot of data and as a student we generally try to place the data in equations to get the answer. This approach is not at all advised.
What we should do is preferably understand the language of the question, figure out about which variable or kinematical parameter it is asking and then go by the definition of that parameter and use the equation to solve the problems.
(d) Next while studying dynamics of a body in translational motion or in rotational motion or combined motion, first thing we need to understand about forces and their effects.
Drawing correct free body diagram and writing equations of dynamics along with constraint relation is the key to master this part.
(e) Understanding of Momentum (Linear or angular) and their conservation principles along with their application is the integral part of understanding mechanics.
(f) Collision and its mechanism, centre of mass, its location and motion of centre of mass is another important concept to learn to master the subject.
For NEET UG aspirants, below is the list of topics in mechanics one should go through while revising the subject.
• Definition of Kinematical Parameters
• Uniformly & Non-Uniformly Accelerated Motion & their Equations.
• Graphical Interpretation & their Transformation
• Relative Velocity
• Problems of Equilibrium
• Dynamics of Smooth Surface
• Friction
• Pseudo Force
• Dynamics of Circular Motion
• Work done by Constant & Variable forces
• Conservation of Mechanical Energy
• Conservation of Linear Momentum
• Center of Mass, Location & Its Motion
• Collision
• Moment of Inertia
• Dynamics of Rotational Motion
• Rolling
• Angular Momentum & its Conservation
If you master this part of physics, you will not only be able to solve 10-12 questions in NEET UG 2024 question paper but for the remaining part of physics also, you will have a high confidence level and your life in this journey is going to be easy.
