JK PAT results have been declared by The Department of Technical Education in the month of June every year. The Department of Technical Education is the main authority that organizes a state-level polytechnic exam. It is organized to get admission into several diploma programs which are offered by the various polytechnic institutions of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Department of Technical Education, as it is known today came into existence in the year 1981, having under its ambit both Polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). It owes its genesis to the Department of Industrial Training and Employment which in 1979 diverged into the Directorate of ITIs lasting till 1981. Polytechnic Institutes were then under the Higher Education Department before the formation of the Department of Technical Education. The Department initially had 07 ITIs and 02 Polytechnics, which over a period of time have grown to 60 ITIs (54 in the Government Sector and 06 in the Private Sector) and 32 Polytechnics - 24 in the Government Sector and 08 in the Private Sector.
