USLLS was founded in 2001 with the intention of operating a Five Year Integrated Professional Law Course and functioning as an advanced legal studies institution. Established in close proximity to the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, several subordinate courts, commissions, tribunals, and different monitoring offices of national and international volunteer organizations, it was the first University Law School. Higher qualifications are required for faculty selection than for university grants commission selection. Common Entrance Test results are used to determine admissions. 

It has the UGC's clearance to offer academic courses and is associated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. It currently provides UG BA-LLB, PG LLM, and Doctoral Ph.D. programs taught by knowledgeable faculty members.
