 SRM Institute of Science and Technology is a private deemed university located in Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India, near Chennai. It was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur. SRM Institute of Science and Technology includes seven campuses, three in Tamil Nadu — Kattankulathur, Ramapuram and Vadapalani, one in NCR Delhi, all of which come under ‘SRM IST, Chennai’. The other 3 campuses include one in Sikkim, one in Sonipat and one in Amaravati. There are about 50,000 students studying in SRM.

The institute gained deemed status during the 2003–2004 academic year and was renamed SRM Institute of Science and Technology. It became SRM University in 2006 following permission by the UGC for 'Deemed to be Universities' to be called 'Universities'. In 2017 it was renamed back as SRM Institute of Science and Technology following the UGC request to drop "University" from the name.

Course curriculum in this institution is one of the best in the country.academic activities are enriched sustainably to acquire a leading position. Placements are on the way,most of companies came interviewed and then they choose the best and i am on the way to highers studies not so concentrated then and there m also appearing for the placements so i can get experience. It is just beginning for me i then also uptil now 3 to 4 indian company arrived and among them mahindra was the best. 50 % of faculty lack the presentation skills inspite of having knowledge but facilities are excellent, for eg: clubs give you opportunity to improve your communication skills,cooperate and work with others.festivals for enjoyment lab session to practice your skills Srm hostel is one of the best institutes where the quality of food is up to the hotel and they provide both ac and non ac rooms. Ex, basketball, valley ball, shuttle, ball batmintion, food ball & athletic tracks etc, campus is fully established with 24*7 wifi unlimited, world class library and excellent research equipments in laboratory.
