Andhra University is located in Visakhapatnam. Andhra University is not just one of the oldest educational institutions in the country but is also the first to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating University, mainly devoted to post-graduate teaching and research. The University is Recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). To assure quality in Higher Education the University has gone through the process of assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ in April 2002. There are 636 affiliated colleges spread across five districts under the territorial jurisdiction of Andhra University. The enrolment in Affiliated Colleges is more than 1.5 Lakhs.
Andhra University was established in 1926 by the Madras University Act to serve the entire linguistic region of Andhra as a residential teaching-cum-affiliating University. The institution has Sir C.R. Reddy as its founder Vice-Chancellor and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as the second Vice-Chancellor. Andhra University offers 313 courses in Arts, Management, Science & Technology, Engineering, Law, Pharmacy and Education. Also, the University has 5 Constituent Colleges and four Andhra Univerity Campuses. In Arts and Commerce, it offers M.A., LLB, M.H.R.H., M.Phil, P.G.Diploma Courses, Certificate Courses, etc. So, in Engineering, the varsity offers UG Courses like B.E. (CE, ME, ECE, CSE, etc.), B.Tech, B.Arch, and PG Diploma, PG and Self finance Courses in Engineering. Similarly, Science and Technology Courses in M.Sc, M.S, M.Tech in various programmes. This University also offers Pharmaceutical Courses which include the B.Pharmacy, M.Pharmacy, and Pharma.D.
