12 residential schools for minorities soon: CM

The state government will allocate Rs. 174 crore to build permanent buildings for 12 minority residential schools across the state, chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said here on 11th November. He was speaking on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India?s first education minister.

Addressing a gathering of minorities, as the day is also celebrated as Minorities' Welfare Day in the state, the chief minister said, "The state government will allocate budget for building permanent structures for 12 minority residential schools. We will also build 20 post-matric hostels across the state and one working women's hostel exclusively for minorities in Hyderabad," he said."Following a request about increasing the amount from Rs 25,000 given to Muslim families to support girl's marriage, we will look into it. But, I must say here that we must ensure that the girl child is educated before she could receive the government aid. We will have to work out modalities," Kiran said.

Recalling the contributions made by Azad, the chief minister said the former was always of the view that education was not meant for livelihood but also to take right decisions in life. "Azad was the youngest person to become the president of the Indian National Congress at the age of 35," he said. Azad was instrumental in establishing Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) during his tenure as education minister, Abid Rasool Khan, State Minorities Commission chairman said. "Even before Independence Azad had advocated the importance of secularism," he added.
