174 engineering colleges can take part in PG counseling

A two judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice P V Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday disposed of a writ appeal filed by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H).The university had appealed against the order of a single judge who directed the authorities to permit private engineering colleges to participate in counseling for PG-level admissions, provided they satisfied the criteria on 'faculty prescription'.

The bench directed the university to issue specific notices to all the colleges pointing out specific causes for 'non-affiliation'. It permitted the counseling in furtherance of the earlier order of the single judge. The bench said that after the colleges respond to the said notices, the single judge will hear the writ pleas on merit from Friday.

Following the High Court direction, all the 324 colleges in Telangana would be included in the Postgraduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (PGECET) counseling which is underway.

"Now the university has to include all 324 colleges in the list of PGECET web counseling. The university officials informed that of 174 colleges, 145 were up the mark, and the remaining would be given notices as per the court direction," Telangana Private Engineering and Professional Colleges Managements Association President Goutham Rao said.
