52 AP institutes offering technical and management courses lack approval

HYDERABAD: No AP university is in the list of 21 fake universities relea- sed by the UGC. A legislative propos- al to prohibit such unfair practices has been introduced in Parliament.

The All-India Council for Technical Education has tracked down 350 “unapproved institutions” across the country that are offering technical and management courses in violation of the AICTE regulations. As many as 52 institutions from Andhra Pradesh figure in this list.

No university from the state figured in the list of 21 fake universities released by the University Grants Commission.

The AICTE has written to the state government to take action against these institutions under the Indian Penal Code. Several prominent Bschools figure in the list. A legislative proposal to prohibit unfair practices in higher educational institutions has already been introduced in Parliament.

Most of these institutions are offering MBA, MCA and post-graduate diplomas in management (PGDM) courses without obtaining the necessary approval from either AICTE or the state government.

Of these 350 unapproved institutions, 75 each are in Delhi and Maharashtra, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 34 in West Bengal, 30 in Uttar Pradesh, 27 in Karnataka, 17 in Haryana, 14 in Tamil Nadu, 9 in Chandigarh, 4 in Gujarat, 3 in Punjab, 2 each in Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Goa, and one each in Uttarkhand and Kerala. As one can see, Andhra Pradesh figures rather high on the list!
