8 ITIs to be upgraded in TS

Union Minister for Labor & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya announced that Central government would provide Rs 41 crore for upgrading eight Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the State of Telangana.

Speaking to newsmen after inspecting government ITI at Mallepally here on Wednesday, Dattatreya said, “Under up gradation scheme, building, compound walls, machinery will get a facelift.

The Union Minister further added that Central government would provide grant of Rs 10 crore for ITI-Mallepally and it would be turned into a model ITI in the country with additional trades being added to the existing 25 trades. Training for women in fashion technology, food processing, and computer training and skill development would be initiated at ITI-Mallepally along with special training programmes for SC, ST and minorities, Dattatreya said. He informed that Central government has been spending Rs 1,783 crore on 11,964 ITIs across the country and of the total 2,274 were government-run institutes. And in Telangana State, there were about 60 government and 206 private ITIs. In order to increase employability among students, Dattatreya said government ITIs would be collaborated with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for training. He hoped that 85 per cent of the students in ITI-Mallepally would get placed with the collaboration.

On the apprenticeship, the Union Minister added that ITI and polytechnic students would get three, two or one year apprentice in the industry. The government has increased stipend from Rs 2,100 to Rs 4,000 for students who are under apprenticeship, he said.

He stated that national career counseling centre would be upgraded with latest technology and government would provide Rs 290 crore for up gradation. He mentioned that students need not to do rounds at the employment centers for jobs as online information would be made available to them.

“Employment opportunities will be digitalized. For an instance, how many opportunities are available, in which field, how students can approach for jobs etc., such information will be made available on national career counseling centre. We will also make a mechanism wherein job alerts are sent through an SMS,” he said.
