Admissions to 25 tech colleges put on hold

HYDERABAD : About 25 Engineer ing, Pharmacy, MBA and MCA colleges, which failed to secure “Extension of Approval” from the All India Council for Technical Education due to court cases and CBI cases, will not be considered for admissions in the first phase of Eamcet and Icet counselling scheduled to begin from the second and third week of this month.

The approval for prominent engineering colleges such as Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology, Muffakham Jah, Sultan-ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy etc. has been kept on hold due to land issues while colleges like Gurukul, Panineeya were not given approval due to cases lodged by the CBI.

The AICTE has also withdrawn approval from the Nizam Institute of Business Management, Nizam Institute of Engineering and Technology and Nizam Institute of Pharmacy.

“We will only include those colleges in the counselling which got approval from AICTE within the cutoff date of June 30. However, these colleges can appeal against the AICTE decision.

If they secure approval later, they may be considered for the second phase,” said Prof. D.N. Reddy, vicechancellor, JNTU-Hyderabad.

The CBI had raided several engineering colleges in AP following the arrest of then AICTE member secretary Mr K. Narayan Rao for accepting a bribe of `5 lakh for inspection and approval of an engineering college in Hyderabad in 2009.

In the case of Muffakham Jah and Sultan-ul-Uloom, the land was not registered in the name of the society, while CBIT and MGIT had got land approved by the gram panchayat instead of HMDA.
