AIEEE aspirants get exam centres in Tamil Nadu

HYDERABAD: The `indiscrimi nate allotment’ of exam centres became a matter of serious concern to the hundreds of students who applied for All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE2011) to be held on May 1 across the country. Nearly 1 lakh students from the state have registered for AIEEE this year.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) which conducts AIEEE every year has identified five cities in the state for conducting the exam this year. The exam will be conducted in Hyderabad, Guntur, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal.

However, hundreds of students in the state were in for a rude shock after they received hall tickets recently allotting them centres located in far away places. Students from Hyderabad were allotted centres in Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Tirupati.

Some students were allotted centres even in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Though students have been complaining about the unjustified centre allotments for the last several years, the officials have failed to take corrective measures.

In 2008, the allotment of centres in Port Blair, Daman & Diu, Bengaluru and Chennai for some of the students from the state had created a furore. The South Central Railway had to run special trains to enable these students to appear for the exams in these centres.

There were complaints that some students who applied for AIEEE from Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar were allotted centres in Bengaluru.

However, the CBSE officials assured students that they will take corrective measures next year. They admitted that they were receiving complaints on centre allotments but clarified that it was done randomly to ensure security.
