Andhra Pradesh to take Eamcet issue to Centre

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday decided to file a petition to the Centre against the Telangana government over the Eamcet row.

It will seek the intervention of the Centre in resolving the dispute on the ground that Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan had failed to resolve it even after conducting a series of meetings with ministers and officials from both the states.

It has also decided to approach the High Court in a day or two against Telangana’s decision to conduct its own Eamcet. AP has been claiming that only APSCHE has the power to conduct common Eamcet for both AP and TS according to the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

AP education minister Ganta Srinivas Rao left for New Delhi on Monday. He is likely to meet Union HRD minister Smriti Irani and other officials seeking Centre’s intervention on the issue. “We consulted the Governor several times on the issue. But the problem could not be resolved. We are left with no option, but to approach the Centre for its intervention,” said Mr Rao.
