Andhra Pradesh to take Telangana to court on fee reimbursement

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to take the Telangana government to court if the latter fails to reimburse the fee of AP students studying in Telangana. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asked human resources development minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and other ministers to take legal opinion on ?1956? clause being proposed by T-government.

The T-government has been coming up with various proposals to deny fee reimbursement to AP students studying in Telangana. After proposing that parents of students have to be born in Telangana for the student to be eligible for fee reimbursement, the latest proposal by the T-government is: Only those students will be eligible for reimbursement who-se family (parents or grandparents) have been residing in Hyderabad or Telangana since 1956.

The Chief Minister told the ministers to ensure that all possible legal remedies are explored to ensure that not a single student of Andhra Pradesh studying in Telangana is denied his or her right to fee reimbursement.

Responding to queries after the cabinet meeting, Information Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy told this correspondent that the AP government was committed to reimbursement of fees to all students studying in AP. The AP government's stand is very clear. Any student who has studied for four consecutive years here is considered a 'local' here. This has been the rule followed by the six-point formula also. The T-government must honour it, the minister said.
