Andhra University, RACE sign MoU

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University and Ramky Academy of Culture and Education (RACE) signed a MoU to run three joint MS programmes in pharmaceutical sciences.

RACE's Head (higher and technical education) and former Vice-Chancellor of AU L. Venugopal Reddy and AU Registrar P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy signed the MoU in the presence of AU Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana on Friday.

Prof. Venugopal Reddy said Ramky group was planning to start a university in Hyderabad and “if every thing goes well”, the institution would be opened during June 2012. Ramky group was waiting for a bill on universities to be passed either in the State Assembly or the Parliament. It has allotted 100 acres out of the 750 acres it has in Shamshabad in Hyderabad outskirts for the university. “Meanwhile we are entering into partnership programmes with Andhra University considering the fact that many bulk and generic drugs industries are here and more will be coming during next year”.

RACE was not for making money but to produce quality personnel for the pharmacy industry, Prof. Venugopal Reddy said. He expressed confidence that the programmes would be a success considering the fact that AU's pharmacy wing was strong, has experienced faculty and good infrastructure. RACE has prepared curriculum for the programmes but would not insist that the same be followed. It would leave it to the faculty to decide, he said.

The course included theory classes for students in the morning session and hands-on training during the afternoon session, every day. A cent per cent placement guarantee was also assured and the faculty too would benefit through interaction with the industry, he said.

Prof. Venugopal Reddy, who was visiting the campus for the first time after completing his tenure here, recalled that as many as 42 MoUs had been signed during that period and expressed his happiness that Prof. Satyanarayana was continuing with the practice.

Prof. Satyanarayana said the MS programmes would be introduced in industrial pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical analysis and quality control and drug development and regulatory affairs. Two committees -- a technical and another academic, would monitor the programmes. Chairman of Board of Studies of pharmacy would head the academic committee and the VC would be chairman of the other committee, which also has two representatives from the industry. Admission would be through an entrance test.
