AP, Telangana students clear JEE Mains with top marks

Hyderabad: Students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana came through with flying colours as results of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)- Mains were released on 27th April.
While two students K Nagendra Reddy of Nellore and B Vidyasagar of Srikakulam secured a total of 340 out of 360 marks in the exam, R Nihaar Chandrah from Guntur secured 336 marks.
In Hyderabad, the topper was K Anirudh Reddy from Film Nagar who secured 335 out 360 along with three other students, M Sandeep Kumar, Garlapati Sreekar and Bedapudi Vamsi, all hailing from Andhra Pradesh. However, all the toppers had studied and written the examination from Hyderabad.
JEE-Mains is the qualifying examination for admissions to National Institutes of Technology. Also, the creamy layer of those who clear the examination are allowed to write JEE-Advance, the qualifying test for admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology.
Over 50 students from the twin states have secured marks over 300 from the twin states. However, the top marks were lower than the previous year as the Physics paper was tougher to crack than the previous year. In 2014, the top mark for IIT-JEE (mains) was 355 out of 360.
Over 13 lakh students had appeared for the mains examination from across the country. Experts said over 5,000 students could have qualified for the examination from AP and Telangana. About 21 percent of students in IITs in the country hail from the twin states, experts said.
Toppers said that it was their hard work that finally paid off. "You have to be thorough with first and second year intermediate syllabus. I used to study for 14 hours a day," said Nagendra Reddy a student of Sri Chaitanya-Narayana IIT Academy, Madhapur. While confident that he will clear the IIT-Advanced examination, Reddy said that he would want to join IIT-Bombay to study computer science. Those students who manage to make the cut-off for IIT advanced examination will have to register online for the same from May 2 to 7. JEE (Advanced) 2015 will be held on May 24.
