Approval of tech colleges get strict

HYDERABAD : Faced with criti cism for being too “liberal” while approving new engineering colleges, the All India Council for Technical Education has made the approval and scrutiny process more stringent this year.

It has introduced a threetier approval process and constituted three committees for the purpose.

The first committee would be a three-member scrutiny committee comprising an academician, architect and advocate each. The vigilance committee will have a

retired judge, an academician and a bureaucrat. The hearing committee will comprise a vice-chancellor, a professor and an architect.

The AICTE has issued a nation-wide notification inviting applications from experts including vicechancellors, retired judges, principals, scientist, teachers, bureaucrats and industry professionals among others to be appointed as members in these committees.

It has appointed an expert committee that will review all these applications in the first phase and shortlist 10 candidates for each committee.
