APSCHE records go missing

HYDERABAD : OFFICIALS OF THE ACB PERSONALLY VISIT OFFICE TO SEEK DETAILS
The matter came to light when the offi- cials of the ACB vis- ited the APSCHE office on Monday looking for copies of the files.

Several important files and records pertaining to financial transactions and approval of management quota admissions have gone missing from the office of the AP State Council of Higher Education, Masab Tank. This development is hindering the probe being conducted by the Anti Corruption Bureau.

The matter came to light when the officials of the ACB visited the APSCHE office on Monday looking for copies of the files.

The ACB has been inquiring into the alleged financial irregularities in APSCHE between 2005 and 2010

when Prof K.C. Reddy was the chairman and Mr MD Christopher was the secretary, following complaints against the functioning of APSCHE.

While Prof. Reddy retired in August 2010 after completing two terms of three years each, Mr M.D.Christopher was sacked in March this year, though he was scheduled to retire in July this year after completing two terms of six years.

While Prof. Reddy was a close aide of the late Chief minister Dr Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy, Mr Christopher is the nephew of the late YSR. Though ACB had sought the details of those files in the first week of June, the APSCHE officials failed to furnish them till now.

Vexed with the delay, ACB officials personally visited the office and sought details.

However, the APSCHE officials informed them that they could not trace the files.

The APSCHE has been facing allegations of grave financial irregularities with regard to purchase of electronic goods, furniture, computers and other equipment worth crores of rupees to set up about 60 helpline centres across the state for conducting web-based counselling for Eamcet, Icet etc and printing of Eamcet information booklets without floating tenders and in violation of prescribed norms.

There were also complaints against APSCHE officials for receiving kickbacks to approve management quota admissions in engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA courses etc in violation of the norms and to approve new private degree colleges though they failed to comply with the norms stipulated by APSCHE.
