Boards Exams from today

Value-based questions introduced this year
The Class X and Class XII Board exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education will begin on Friday.

Nearly 25,000 students from the state have registered for these exams. Of them, nearly 20,000 have registered for Class X exams, while about 5,000 students for Class XII.

For the first time, students have to face "valuebased questions" in all major subjects from this year for up to 3 to 5 marks.

The Board has decided to follow an interdisciplinary approach in value education where values are intermingled with the content of all the major subjects. The questions will be based on content and analysed on the basis of the values it reflects.

The CBSE has also decided to allow visually impaired candidates to bring their own computer with relevant software to the exam centre.

Students have to be extracareful with Boards from this year, as the CBSE has reduced the number of chances for compartment for Class XII to three from five. Also the number of attempts for "improvement of performance" for Class X has been reduced to one from five.

Visually impaired students using computer software will not be provided with a writer and will be allotted an examination centre only in the city where the regional office is located.

Special category students will be given additional time of 60 minutes for a paper of three hours, 50 minutes for a paper of twoand-a-half hours, 40 minutes for a paper of two hours and 30 minutes for a paper of one-and-a-halfhour duration.
