CBSE to provide questions in Telugu

CBSE to provide questions in Telugu

The state government’s flip-flop over adopting the National Common Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS admissions has been creating confusion among medical aspirants in the state.

After consenting to NEET from May 2013, the state government is now having second thoughts.

Coaching centres are lobbying for NEET to be put off to 2014, stating that AP students will be at a loss if it is implemented from this year. Chief Minister Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is expected
to write a letter to the Centre soon requesting the later date. There has been uncertainty on this issue for the past one year. With just eight months to go, students don't know whether they should be preparing for Eamcet or the new NEET.

The Medical Council of India wrote to all states that NEET will be held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in May 2013 as directed by the Supreme Court, and the notification will be issued in December this year. The state government responded positively over implementing Neet from 2013 and asked the NTR University of Health Sciences to finalise the modalities of the test.

The NTRUHS registrar, Dr Venugopal Rao, participated in a meeting conducted by CBSE in Delhi last month. The CBSE has agreed to provide Neet questions in Telugu. It has decided to conduct Neet in five cities in AP.

Everything was going smoothly, when the department of medical
education asked officials of the higher education to give their opinion whether AP should adopt Neet from 2013 or 2014.

The higher education department opted for 2014, since the fresh batch of 10+2 students, who took admission this year, will prepare accordingly.

Taking this into consideration, the department of medical education has referred the issue again to the state government to take a final decision. The decision has to be taken quickly by the Chief Minister, so that the students are clear on which test they must study for.
