The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has updated the reservation rules and seat matrix for Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai, specifically for admissions through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027. The key changes include the introduction of distinct reservation provisions for transgender candidates and orphans for both undergraduate and postgraduate law programs. Eligible candidates under these categories can modify their reservation details in the CLAT 2027 application form up until October 31, 2026. It is essential for applicants to review the revised rules and verify their eligibility prior to making any amendments to their application. According to the new regulations, 1 percent of the total sanctioned seats will be reserved for transgender candidates, alongside an additional 1 percent for orphans. These provisions are applicable to both the five-year BA LLB (Honours) program and the one-year LLM program at MNLU Mumbai.
Under the updated admission policy, MNLU Mumbai has introduced two new horizontal reservation provisions across its undergraduate and postgraduate programs:
Transgender Candidates: A 1% horizontal reservation of the total sanctioned intake.
Orphan Candidates: A 1% horizontal reservation of the total sanctioned intake.
These new quotas apply to both the 5-year BA LL.B. (Hons.) program and the 1-year LL.M. program.
MNLU Mumbai offers a total of 150 seats across its BA LLB (Honours) and LLM programmes, allocated through the CLAT process, with adherence to specified reservation policies. For the BA LLB (Honours) programme, there are 100 seats, with 27 reserved for the All India General Category and 73 dedicated to various Maharashtra State categories. In the LLM programme, 50 seats are available, of which 12 are for the All India General Category and 38 for Maharashtra State categories. The reservation categories for Maharashtra State include Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), denotified tribes, nomadic tribes, the Specially Backward Class, Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC). Additionally, MNLU Mumbai implements horizontal reservation policies, allocating 30% of seats for women, 5% for persons with disabilities, and another 5% for the children of ex-servicemen or defence personnel, all contingent on meeting eligibility criteria.
Following the change in reservation guidelines, the Consortium has allowed registered candidates to make necessary edits to their reservation status.
