D.Ed must for Secondary teachers

The orders will benefit 5,000 D.Ed candidates who had failed to get jobs despite securing merit in the DSC exam. The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the state government to appoint candidates only with D.Ed qualifications who had written the DSC teacher recruitment exams held in 2006 and 2008 as Secondary Grade Teachers.

The orders will benefit around 5,000 D.Ed candidates who had failed to get jobs despite securing merit in the DSC exam as the government had earlier allotted these posts to candidates with B.Ed qualifications.

The SC directed the government to appoint all the selected candidates as SGTs within three years, even if it required enhancing their upper age limit of 39-years.

The government has been allotting 100 per cent of SGT posts to D.Ed candidates only since the 2010 DSC recruitment exam as some D.Ed candidates who had failed to secure jobs in 2006 and 2008 had questioned the state government's policy in the Supreme Court which finally issued orders in their favour.

School Education Department officials said the SC orders are expected to benefit about 2,000 D.Ed candidates since the remaining 3,000 candidates were selected in subsequent DSC exams held in 2010 and 2012.
