Division Confusion over SSC Supplementary Examinations

The confusion over the conduct of SSC supplementary examinations in June is leaving the officials at the Directorate of Government Examinations in a lurch. While the work for these exams begins in mid-April in unified state, the exams will be held in June after the Appointed Day (June 2) when two states actually come into being.

According to the AP Reorganization Act 2014, the department does not enjoy special status to continue in its present form like some other higher educational institutions. This being the case, officials are pondering over whether the upcoming governments in two states will conduct these exams or special arrangements will be made to conduct the exams under the present body.

Unsettled over this development, the officials of the department have made representation to the chief secretary P K Mohanty in a special meeting convened to discuss the division of the education department at the Secretariat on 10th April.

A senior official from the department said, "We gave in writing urging the chief secretary to look into the matter to resolve this typical problem. The department conducts various other exams along with SSC exams. While the work for these exams has begun in united state, the logical conclusion for the exams this year comes only in September. The authorities have to show us the way and there has to be some breakthrough soon."

He added that the supplementary exams cannot be seen as separate exams but they are rather an extension of the ongoing SSC exams. "Any preparations for the exams to be conducted in June should start from April like procuring stationery items. With declaration of results slated for May 20, the supplementary exams have to be held in June after bifurcation," he added.
