TIRUPATI: A day after students went on a rampage and smashed glass panes and broke flower pots amid shouts of ‘V-C Go Back', there was a relative calm on the trouble-torn Dravidian University campus located at Kuppam, 150 km from here on Friday.

The sprawling campus was established by TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao as a joint facility of the of the four southern States to promote research and advanced studies on various aspects of Dravidian languages, culture and so on. But the campus has been in the eye of a storm for quite some time now amid reports of large scale irregularities in the admission of candidates for Ph.D and the latest, an unrest on the campus on Thursday protesting against the alleged irregularities under the garb of ‘lateral admissions' using forged certificates.

Irate students who mobbed Vice-Chancellor Kadapa Ramanaiah amid heavy sloganeering and attempts to storm the university building, did not relent until the police descended on the campus and persuaded them to withdraw their agitation in view of an enquiry already being in progress reportedly under the joint aegis of the V-Cs of Andhra, Osmania and Nagarjuna universities into the entire gamut of issues involving the Dravidian University administration as a whole.

The panel constituted by the State is said to have already had some sittings and is reportedly in the process of finalising its report to be submitted to the government.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ramanaiah denied reports of any irregularities in the administration and attributed the furore to ‘baseless reports' carried by a section of the media to malign him and the university.
